Meet Christy Stanley, KCV Grants Coordinator

Headshot of Christy Stanley from the shoulders up smiling.

KCV recently welcomed Christy Stanley as Grants Coordinator under the KCV EDGE Program. We're excited to welcome Christy to the team and asked her a few questions about her new role!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and why you wanted to be a part of KCV?

With over 19 years in higher education and specialized experience in grant administration, I have a strong background in project management, compliance, and financial analysis. Recently, I served as a Senior Administrative and Grants Specialist at Jefferson College, where I was heavily involved in implementing the Cayuse grants management system and supporting an upcoming National Science Foundation grant application. I take a proactive approach to tracking grant activities and have a commitment to compliance post award. As I’ve reviewed the KCV goals and the breadth of the KCV Edge grant, I was convinced that this project was something that I could add my management, accounting, and organizational skills to and have a direct impact both in Kentucky’s institutions of higher education, but also in the economic growth and development of the state.

How did you get interested in research and commercialization?

I became interested in research and commercialization because I saw the potential for innovative ideas to have a tangible, real-world impact. The process of turning research findings into products or solutions that can improve lives and drive economic growth fascinated me, especially when it involves collaboration between academia, industry, and entrepreneurs. I’m motivated by the opportunity to bridge the gap between discovery and application, making research accessible and valuable to society.

What are you most excited about in your new position?

The great minds that I get to collaborate with is a huge bonus in my new position as KCV Edge Grants Coordinator. The team is nothing short of amazing and I believe that I’m lucky to be a part of it.

Why would you say it's important to help Kentucky higher education institutions expand their capacity for research?

Expanding the research capacity of Kentucky’s higher education institutions is crucial for fostering innovation, driving economic development, and attracting investment to the state. Increased research capacity enhances the ability to address pressing societal challenges, from healthcare to environmental sustainability. Moreover, strengthening research programs can create opportunities for students and faculty, boosting the state’s competitiveness in a global knowledge economy.

Can you share a little-known fact about yourself?

When I’m not working or teaching college courses, I’m found either in the barn with my horses, riding, or competing at barrel races and rodeos. In my spare time I read, with my current record being reading every day for 331 weeks straight!
