KCV recently welcomed Makaila (Mak) Livingood (they/she) as a Commercialization Intern. Mak is a currently a student in their third year at Morehead State University. We're excited to welcome Mak to the team and asked them a few questions so you can get to know them too!
Can you tell us a little about yourself and why you wanted to be a part of KCV?
I'm currently studying small business management & entrepreneurship as well as computer information systems at Morehead State University. I serve as the vice president for my university's chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, where I work to increase student involvement and success across the business school. Being a part of KCV for me means introduction to the professional world and self-discovery at its finest.
How did you get interested in tech transfer and commercialization?
When I stumbled upon Kayla's advertisement on LinkedIn, I had no idea what tech transfer was! I knew I recognized all of the words, but had to take some time to truly understand what I was getting myself into when I applied. Since then, I have discovered that this field has endless applications for all of the skills and knowledge I've been picking up in my undergraduate programs.
What are you hoping to learn as part of the KCV internship?
During my time with KCV, I hope to strengthen my entrepreneur mindset and determine what makes me the most passionate.
What's your favorite aspect of the intern experience so far?
My favorite aspect of the intern experience so far is my wonderful team! So welcoming and helpful, the KCV team wants to see my success and not just my contribution.
Can you share a little-known fact about yourself?
My favorite past-time is hiking, especially in the beautiful state of Kentucky.
